Where Creativity Knows No Bounds: The Heart of the Art Studio

A lively hum of conversation fills the air as children immerse themselves in creativity, their laughter punctuating moments of deep concentration. Brushes glide across paper, bringing imagined worlds to life. The art studio buzzes with purpose, a sanctuary where self-expression knows no boundaries.

Thanks to visionary support from the Arthur and Helen Baer Foundation, Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital’s art studio continues to be one of the most popular spots in the hospital.  The newly enhanced art room-a cornerstone of healing and creativity-has undergone needed accessibility upgrades, empowering children to express themselves and thrive.

Key Improvements Made Possible by Donors:

  • Accessible Entryway: A redesigned entrance with wider openings ensures seamless access for patients using wheelchairs, walkers, beds, and specialized medical equipment.
  • Adaptive Workstations: Adjustable-height tables now accommodate patients of all abilities, whether seated in wheelchairs, supported by standers, or resting in hospital beds.
  • Celebration of Creativity: A vibrant gallery wall showcases patient artwork, fostering pride and community while inspiring hope across the hospital.

These enhancements directly address the physical, emotional, and social needs of our patients, aligning with research showing therapeutic art improves motor skills, emotional resilience, and self-esteem. By investing in accessibility, the Baer Foundation’s generosity ensures every child can participate fully in creative healing – demonstrating that transformative care begins with compassionate supporters like you.

Kristen LaRose, Chief Nursing Officer, offers, “Art is more than just art to us, it’s a powerful tool that helps our kids heal.”

Art is an integral part of our care at Ranken Jordan because it offers so many rewards.

First, it’s another way to get patients out of their hospital rooms, which is core to our unique care model, Care Beyond the Bedside. Our art room is a place where kids can socialize and work on their motor skills.

Creating a piece of art also gives our kids a sense of control that increases their self-esteem, and it provides them with a way to communicate, something that is often difficult for our patients. Many kids at Ranken Jordan have limited mobility, limited speech, delayed development, or multiple diagnoses so art gives them a way to express themselves.

Your generosity fuels the imagination and resilience of countless children. Your continued support ensures that every child, regardless of ability, can experience the joy of artistic expression. Because of you, this creative haven remains a place of laughter, healing, and limitless possibility. Thank you.
