Amy Zimmermann, MD
Pediatric Physiatrist
Amy Zimmermann, MD, is board certified in pediatric rehabilitation medicine, also known as physiatry. A physiatrist is a physician who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation and treats a variety of medical conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, and ligaments to maximize functional ability.
Dr. Zimmermann partners with a multidisciplinary team to address the rehabilitation needs of each patient. Physiatrists bring expertise in rehabilitation to help children improve function, get back to their lives and school, and improve their quality of life and satisfaction.
Ranken Jordan brought the region’s first physiatrist to the area more than 10 years ago and we have maintained physiatrists on staff ever since.
Dr. Zimmermann received her bachelor’s degree in biologic sciences from the University of Missouri-Columbia and her medical degree from the University’s School of Medicine. She completed a pediatric internship at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. She was a resident in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. She then returned to Children’s Mercy Hospital to complete a two-year fellowship in pediatric rehabilitation medicine before coming to Ranken Jordan in 2009.
In addition to her role as pediatric physiatrist at Ranken Jordan, Dr. Zimmermann is on staff as a clinical instructor through the division of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Washington University School of Medicine and at Mercy Medical Center. She also holds a medical staff appointment through the Department of Pediatrics at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center.
